1. Core Measurement Principle & Technical Advantages

Based on the advanced ultrasonic time-of-flight (TOF) measurement principle, the FMU40 emits ultrasonic pulses through its sensor; these pulses are reflected by the surface of the measured medium and then received by the sensor. The transmitter precisely calculates the distance between the sensor and the medium surface according to the time interval of pulse transmission and reception, and converts it into level, volume or flow data through the built-in signal processing system for output. This non-contact measurement method avoids direct contact with the measured medium, fundamentally eliminating wear, corrosion and pollution caused by contact measurement, thus significantly extending the instrument's service life.
Equipped with an integrated temperature sensor, the FMU40 can automatically correct the sound velocity affected by temperature changes, ensuring high measurement accuracy even in environments with large temperature fluctuations. It boasts an excellent measurement accuracy of ±2 mm or ±0.2% of the set measuring range, which can accurately capture subtle changes in liquid level and provide reliable data support for industrial process control and inventory management. In addition, the transmitter is equipped with a 32-point linearization function, which can flexibly convert measured values into any unit of length, volume or flow rate to meet the diverse measurement needs of different industries.

2. Key Technical Specifications

  • Measurement Range: For liquids, the range is 0.25m to 5m (0.8ft to 16ft); for bulk solids, it is 0.25m to 2m (0.8ft to 6.6ft). The blocking distance is 0.25m (0.8ft) for all media types.
  • Temperature Range: Both ambient and process temperatures range from -40°C to 80°C (-40°F to 176°F), enabling stable operation in extremely cold and high-temperature environments.
  • Pressure Range: The maximum absolute process pressure is 0.7 bar to 3 bar (10 psi to 44 psi), suitable for various pressure conditions at industrial sites.
  • Material & Protection: The main wetted parts are made of PVDF, which has excellent chemical resistance and can resist corrosion from various aggressive media. With an IP68 protection rating, the instrument achieves complete dustproof and long-term waterproof performance, even capable of normal operation when submerged in water up to 3m, effectively adapting to harsh environments such as rain, dust and humidity.
  • Communication & Power Supply: It supports 4-20mA HART communication and can be optionally equipped with PROFIBUS PA or Foundation Fieldbus, realizing seamless integration with industrial control systems for convenient remote monitoring and parameter adjustment. Available in two-wire or four-wire integrated transmitter designs, it adapts to different on-site power supply conditions.
  • Certifications: It has obtained international certifications including ATEX, FM, CSA, TIS, INMETRO and NEPSI, and is suitable for explosive hazardous areas (gas-Ex, dust-Ex), ensuring safe operation in dangerous industrial environments such as petrochemical and chemical industries.
